Ekstasis

concerts series

"Ekstasis is a series of musical events coordinated by a collective of young musicians and artists based in Rome.

The project was born out of the need to create a new meeting point where performers and artists can freely express and create, filling the gap of open spaces where they can engage with both the space and the audience.

Ekstasis is the expression of a generation that believes in spreading art as a means for a healthier society that is more attuned to the stimuli of our time.

The project originated in the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome from the shared vision between the collective and Father Angelo Campana, a Carmelite priest, visionary, and lover of the arts.

The project's name references the most famous sculpture housed in the church: 'The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa' by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Thanks to the "Ekstasis" project, churches become subjects of a redefinition of the purpose of spaces: historically, the church has been the cradle of sacred music, a means of transmitting faith to the community.

Through the initiatives implemented as part of the "Ekstasis" project, music within the church walls sheds its historic evangelizing function and takes on additional values: promoting culture within the community; creating space and new opportunities for emerging local artists; bringing the community of believers (and non-believers) closer to new forms of artistic expression; promoting intercultural and intergenerational dialogue within the church, which once again becomes a gathering place for different social and demographic groups; and improving people's psycho-social conditions in the post-pandemic period through exposure to music and new opportunities for socialization.

The project primarily stems from the desire to connect local artists (also through the creation of an informal network of young professionals in the field) with a diverse audience that is not necessarily accustomed to the musical offerings, promoting an environment open to exchange and dialogue through bilateral communication between performer and spectator."
